Agere Ifa bowls were used by Ifa priests during divination, which was carried out using sacred palm nuts manipulated on a tray that bore a portrait of Eshu on one side. The Ifa priests stored the sacred palm nuts in an Agere Ifa bowl (Kerchache, Art of Africa, 1993).
