This exquisitely made natural mineral specimen box features Florentine marble which is a rare kind of limestone called pieta paesina. The stone falls into the picture jasper category. Pietra paesina is found in the Northern Apennine Mountains around Florence. The mountains are famous for this limestone.

The edges of the sliced stone are expertly matched, wrapping around from the front to the top and to the back of the box, resulting in an elegant objet d’art.
